X Factor: James Arthur steals British-themed show

James Arthur had another triumphant night on Saturday's X Factor when he wowed the judges with his quirky interpretation of an Adele song. The 24-year-old took to the stage to deliver his own unique spin of the singer's hit Hometown Glory on the series' Best Of British themed night, as the remaining seven acts made their latest bid to remain in the competition. And the judges were so impressed that it even led Gary Barlow to tell him, "No-one should ever cover her songs except for you...your talent is absolutely incredible." Nicole Scherzinger was similarly enthusiastic. "You took Adele and swagged it," she told him. It was also a good night for favourites Ella Henderson and Jahmene Douglas, the former taking on Tinie Tempah's Written In The Stars and the latter delivering a moving rendition of Robbie Williams' Angels. "You are an old soul trapped in a young girl's body," Louis Walsh told Ella, adding, "You are the best girl we have had since Leona Lewis." Meanwhile Tulisa told Jahmene, "I love the fact you are a perfectionist and that's why you've got to where you are," while Gary added, "Here is a song we have heard hundreds of times but I've never heard it sung like that before." Elsewhere the two remaining groups District 3 and Union J scored mixed responses for their respective versions of Eric Clapton's Tears In Heaven and Coldplay's Fix You - while Rylan Clark took the British theme to new levels by apparently 'jumping' out of a plane and donning a Union Jack blazer to perform his Spice Girls medley. "It was like the closing ceremony of the Olympics all over again," Tulisa said while even Gary had a few kind words for the singer. "On the subject of fun that was absolutely brilliant," he admitted, "but on the subject of vocals it was absolutely diabolical." The judges also remained divided on Christopher Maloney, who ditched the usual ballads this week for his rendition of Elton John's 80s hit I'm Still Standing. "I am getting bored of telling you every week I don't like it," Tulisa admitted, while Louis told him,"You are the karaoke king. You are not what The X Factor is about." Saturday's show also featured a performance from One Direction, who took to the stage with their latest single Little Things. One more act will leave the competition on Sunday night.
