Janina in particular is beside herself with excitement. She's always wanted to go there and her enthusiasm spills over as the pair explore the city’s incredible art and architecture.

From the kaleidoscopic colours of St Isaac's Cathedral (and its dark cellars, which hid precious works of art during the siege) to sombre 'apartment museums', the opulence of the Winter Palace and the stark paintings of 'dissident babushka' Yelena Osipova, there's so much to squeeze in that St Petersburg could really do with a whole series of its own.
