Children talk about surviving the trauma of domestic violence

Behind Closed Doors is a harrowing one-off documentary about the effect of domestic violence on young people.

Filmed over three years, the film features senior social workers and children who have all witnessed terrible events.

Kirstie, 14, (above with her aunt Jo and a photo of her mum) was too terrified to tell anyone about what was really going on at home, even when her mum went missing.

Here, Kirstie speaks for the first time about discovering her stepdad had murdered her mum.

Ollie, eight, lives in fear of his mum’s boyfriend returning after he viciously attacked her in front of him, and Zara, 13, talks about growing up in a violent home and how she feels when her dad wants to re-establish contact.
