There's getting away from it all – and there’s moving to Fair Isle, Britain’s most remote inhabited island.

As this two-part documentary (first shown on BBC1 Scotland) begins, we meet some of its 55 residents, who are about to be joined by newcomers Rachel and Shaun.

Life here is not easy, with challenges including the heartrending process of having to send children to boarding school on mainland Shetland, as Fair Isle has no high school.

But it's also paradise for hundreds of visiting birdwatchers, proud home of the famous knitwear, and a place with a very special community where, says one resident, 'everybody kens you'.
