Pity poor Kenneth Williams, sat in his sparse, spotless flat, struggling with painful piles.

Kenneth (Michael Sheen) was adored by the public but – as this 2006 biopic never lets us forget – riven with self-doubt and illness.

Though the Carry On star would have loathed it, this sympathetic portrait lays open his private world and also manages to convey some of the star's peculiar genius.
