Is there hope for Zoe and Max?

Consultant Zoe Hanna’s day gets off to a bad start when she wakes up with the hangover from hell and drinker’s remorse! When she gets to work there’s nowhere to hide from her estranged husband Max, who plays the late-night voicemail she left, telling him she misses him – and more besides!

Although Max spends the day teasing Zoe about her drunken message, when he later gets into trouble trying to help Mercedes’ son Connor out of a dangerous situation, Zoe is the first person he calls.

Zoe braves a poisonous spider and manages to come to Max and Connor’s rescue. And later, back at the hospital, the star-crossed lovers share a passionate kiss!

There’s a new nurse at the ED, and he has the rest of the staff scratching their heads! David Hide (Heartbeat’s Jason Durr) doesn’t have a lot to say – even resident hospital eccentric, Dylan Keogh calls him ‘an odd fish’. But when semi-silent David helps dying alcoholic Annie (Cathy Tyson) come to terms with her devastating predicament, his nursing skills impress everyone.

Meanwhile, Mercedes (Hannah Spearritt) is planning to flee Holby with her husband Vince (Andrew Knott) and son Connor. But local drug dealer Shelle (Kelli Hollis) has other ideas… She kidnaps Connor, and it’s up to Zoe and Max to join forces and rescue him. However, Zoe has news for Mercedes – she’s pregnant!

Also this week, Rita finally confides in Iain about her ex-husband’s harassment. When Mark (Joel Beckett) turns up at the ED, Iain sends him packing and Rita’s impressed.

Elsewhere, normally macho Jacob reveals his fear of spiders, but fortunately Lily is on hand to take charge!
