Can respected professor John Gaskell cure a patient of MS?
All eyes are on the revered surgeon as he attempts to help a woman to walk again...
Professor John Gaskell was greeted with a hero's welcome when he first arrived at Holby, having reversed motor neurone disease in a patient using stem cell therapy. This week, all eyes are on Holby again as Gaskell attempts to change another woman’s life.
It's a big day for Gaskell as trial patient Fiona Fawcett arrives at the hospital. Fiona suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, which has left her paralysed from the waist down. Gaskell’s adamant he can make Fiona walk again by implanting a nerve, taken from her ankle and laced with stem cells, into her spine.
Gaskell's calm and focused as he takes Fiona into theatre and is visibly relieved when the transplant surgery goes well. But will Fiona be able to walk again?
Meanwhile, in the shadow of Meena's involvement with Gaskell's groundbreaking trial, Nicky is desperate to get her hands dirty. Nicky knows that, if she want to impress Sacha, she’ll have to walk before she can run… and learns a valuable lesson in the process.
Also, Frieda and Jac form an unlikely partnership in order to deal with a lively patient. But has Frieda got what it takes to win Jac’s trust?
