In one of his final roles, Bill Paxton - usually cast as an affable character - is chillingly convincing as a corrupt sheriff and abusive single father in this rural crime thriller.
Newly arrived in a remote farming community but already up to no good, his evil lawman stands in the way of the blossoming young love of the story's protagonists, his 15-year-old daughter (Sophie Nélisse) and local farmboy (Josh Wiggins).
Gallant and rash, Wiggins resolves to save Nélisse and impulsively steals a bag of drug money from her dad. The pair go on the run, hiding out in the woods and in cheap motels, with Paxton in vindictive pursuit.
Making striking use of his autumnal locations (the film was handsomely shot in Canada), director Nathan Morlando cranks up the suspense, while Paxton's gripping performance ensures we're on the edge of our seats.
