It’s the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness in the land of the rising sun as Monty Don continues to explore Japanese Gardens

Monty Don returns to Japan, this time in the Autumn, to discover more about the history behind some of the country’s most stunning gardens.

He revisits Kenroku-en, just north of Kyoto, the garden where he admired the cherry blossom in the Spring.

The Autumn colours are just as striking as the maples transform the garden into a fiery vista of reds and oranges.

Monty Don's Japanese Gardens

Japanese gardens offer sanctuary from the bustle of city life

The TV gardener also explores a ‘stroll garden’, where you follow a curved path and around each corner enjoy a beautiful view.

Monty also has a go at the ancient art of bonsai pruning and learns how Tokyo is determined to be a green place, despite the constraints of space in the city.
