Who shot the judge?

When High Court judge Rachel Callaghan (guest star Juliet Stevenson) is shot in an underground carpark,’tecs Ronnie and Matt quickly discover that the attack was a hitman’s botched attempt to kill her. The shooting leaves Judge Callaghan critically ill in hospital with her husband (John McArdle, Waterloo Road) by her bedside. It’s up to Ronnie and Matt to work out who wanted the judge dead – a criminal she’s been pursuing a case against, or perhaps someone closer to home? Later, as evidence mounts against the accused, Callaghan’s health deteriorates and she decides to have the hospital stop her treatment. In a poignant climax, CPS Director George Castle (Bill Paterson) is torn between his warm friendship with fellow law-maker Callaghan and respecting a person’s right to die, as he tries to get her to accept the truth of what has happened. Completing tonight’s star-studded line-up, Diana Quick also guest-stars as Judge Mary Hall.
