Neighbours hunts for new theme tune singer

Neighbours fans will have the chance to become the new star of the show - singing the famous theme tune for the soap.

Channel 5 is launching a competition to find a new version of the opening credits for the Australian show, which has produced world famous pop stars including Kylie Minogue (pictured), Jason Donovan, Holly Valance, Delta Goodrem, Natalie Imbruglia and cult favourite Alan Fletcher, who plays Dr Karl Kennedy.

Fans will need a good singing voice and a stand-out take on the tune to be selected to fly to Melbourne and represent the UK as they go head-to-head against the Aussie finalist in April.

Soap bosses are comparing the Neighbours Remixed competition to England and Australia's on-going battle for the Ashes cricket title.

Greg Barnett, Channel 5's Commissioning Editor for Soaps, said: "We've beaten the Aussies in the last two cricket meetings, so I'm confident a UK soloist can be crowned the voice of the new Neighbours theme.

"We're using Soundcloud as our mode of entry so it's super-accessible and the prize is absolutely fantastic. The UK has an amazing pool of talent so I'm truly confident this is a prize we can win."

Fans can enter the competition on the Channel 5 website.

Then five lucky UK finalists will be chosen and will hear their very own Neighbours theme played over the show's opening credits on Channel 5 during the week of March 18.

Viewers can vote for their favourite in an online poll and the winner will fly to Australia for the grand final.

Details of how to enter the competition can be found at www.channel5.com/neighboursremixed.
