Right in the midst of shooting principal photography for Roman epic Gladiator in Malta in 1999, British actor Oliver Reed suffered a fatal heart attack.
Because some of the scenes featuring Reed's character Proximo hadn't yet been shot, the producers had to apply some post-production tricks to complete these sequences.
By filming a live action body-double with a 3D CGI mask of Reed's face, the unfinished sequences were completed.
