Dame Julie Andrews joins puppets and special guests to host a new children's show on Netflix

Legendary actress Dame Julie Andrews will star alongside a cast of puppets in a new kids TV show on Netflix.

The Mary Poppins and Sound of Music star will appear in Julie’s Greenroom, a new preschool show featuring a puppet cast of kids learning about the performing arts.

Dame Julie, who created the series with her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton and Judy Rothman-Rof?, will star as Ms Julie, who teaches performing arts workshops to a new generation of kids known as the Greenies.

“This project represents the fulfillment of a long held dream to educate children about the wonder of the arts," says Dame Julie. “We could not be more honored to be working with the extraordinary Jim Henson Company.”

Each of the 13 episodes, which are due to air on Netlfix early next year, will feature a guest star, with those confirmed to appear so far including Frozen’s Idina Menzel and Hollywood star Alex Baldwin.

Netflix also confirmed that from August 3 it will launch a new animated original series called Beat Bugs inspired by the music of The Beatles. The family show will tell uplifting stories about a group of bugs with artists such as Gavin and Stacey’s James Corden, James Bay and P!nk among the stars covering The Beatles’ hits for the series.

TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
