Celebrity Big Brother runners up, Jedward, are told their father is in intensive care

Energetic pops twins Jedward were dealt some shattering news following their huge success in the Celebrity Big Brother House.

The twins, John and Edward, who finished in second place  in yesterday's live final, were given the terrible news that their father was critically ill, just minutes after leaving the Big Brother house.

The 25-year old pair learnt that their father, John Grimes has been in intensive care in a Dublin hospital while his sons took part in the gruelling reality show that was fraught with bust-ups and vicious arguments.

The boys' mum, Susanna Condron, who also works as their manager, revealed that she and  their father did not want  news of his illness reaching the boys before they left the show as they wanted them to enjoy every moment of the Big Brother opportunity.

Speaking to the Daily Star she said, "John Snr has been in intensive care. He insisted Edward and John must not be informed of his critical condition.

"He stated he would not jeopardise their chances of reaching the final as there would have been legions of disappointed fans."

The hyperactive pop-duo,  who originally found success on The X Factor and  have over 680,000 twitter followers, got up to all kinds of fun and mischief in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

They were  widely tipped to win the series but in a surprise result,  were pipped to the post by Loose Women panellist, Coleen Nolan, who was visibly stunned to have won as she broke down in tears.
