Toby Jones 'intrigued and excited' by his villainous character in Sherlock

Toby Jones will co-star in the next series of hit BBC1 crime mystery Sherlock.

Detectorists and Dad's Army star Toby said: “I'm excited and intrigued by the character I shall be playing in Sherlock..."

He will star in the second episode of the three-part series and while his caracter isn't yet announced, Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat said he was 'delighted to have Toby Jones on board, bringing to life one of Doyle’s finest villains'.

 

His co-creator Mark Gatiss added: "We're thrilled to welcome one of our finest actors to the Sherlock family. I know Toby will embrace the part with true relish!"

Series four of Sherlock will begin with the nation’s favourite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil, as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge - becoming parents for the first time.

The New Year's Day special, Sherlock: The Abominable Bride, was the most watched programme over the holiday season with 11.6 million viewers and the highest-ever audience share for a Sherlock episode.
