TV Times top picks for today

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Monday 9th April

Springtime on the Farm, 8pm, C5

The BBC’s Lambing Live has a new rival, as presenter Adam Henson moves over to C5 with a week of live programmes filmed at family-run Cannon Hall Farm in Yorkshire. Joined by former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher, JLS singer-turned-farmer JB Gill and presenter Lindsey Chapman, Adam will be monitoring springtime activity on the farm, waiting for baby animals to arrive and meeting some adorable new friends, from piglets to meerkats. Nature’s a cruel and unpredictable mistress, but with any luck there’ll be some births across the week and some teeny tiny new lambs to coo over from your sofa. What could be more delightful? Rating: *****

Plebs, from 10pm, ITV2

It’s out with the old and in with the new as Plebs returns with a double-bill. Regular Stylax (Joel Fry) exits dramatically while cheerful newbie Jason (Jonathan Pointing) enters. In the opener, Robert Lindsay facilitates the cast change as crooked property developer Crassus. He gives Marcus (Tom Rosenthal), Grumio (Ryan Sampson) and Jason a public toilet, which they turn into a wine bar… obviously! Rating: *****

The Island with Bear Grylls, 9pm, C4

The two camps are split between rich and poor and living at opposite ends of the same beach. For both teams the reality of surviving really hits home. Heavy rain puts the fires out and cracks appear as everyone gets tired, cold and hungry. In the ‘poor’ team Phil faces a mutiny, with kindly nurse Laura being voted the new leader. In the ‘posh’ team medic James, who admits he struggles to get on with people in the real world, starts to irritate everyone, leaving him isolated. Vegetarian Erance goes against his beliefs to help the team, which makes him question his reasons for being there, and Laura and Phil struggle with the work ethic of their teammates. Rating: ***

More previews tomorrow.
