This is not your typical film about gun-slinging cowboys in the American West having stand-offs outside saloons, but is arguably one of the saddest stories of two doomed lovers to ever grace the big screen.
Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal play two closeted homosexuals in 1960s Wyoming who find solace in one another while working on Brokeback Mountain. Social expectation once again plays a huge part here and even convinces the lovers that what they feel for one another is wrong. The message here is that while society may discriminate, love certainly does not.
