Karen Barber: 'The last three deserve to be in the Dancing on Ice final'

Karen Barber has admitted she'll miss being part of Dancing on Ice, which comes to an end with an 'all-star' final next Sunday.

West End star Ray Quinn, Coronation Street actress Hayley Tamaddon and Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle - all former champions - will battle it out next weekend for the title of ultimate champion.

And it's a final that ice panellist, former Olympic skater Karen Barber, who's been both a coach and judge on the show since it began back in 2006, can't wait to see.

She said: "The last three have gone all the way before, so they all deserve to be in the final. Not only do these past winners want to prove they're the ultimate champion, but they're all fighting to stay because they don't want to miss the end of the Dancing on Ice story."

Karen can recall lots of memorable moments across all nine series. "Hayley and Dan's 'Jai Ho' was incredible, as was Suzanne Shaw's flying routine and Ray Quinn's recent paso doble. I'll really miss the challenge of starting training on a Monday to the reward of seeing the finished performance live on a Sunday night."

And she's certain that skating legends Torvill and Dean, who've helped train the celebrity skaters since the start, have contributed to the show's success.

"Whenever Chris and Jayne step onto the ice to perform it's always a memorable moment," Karen said of the duo, who'll perform their last-ever televised Bolero on final night. "They wrote history as far as ice dancing is concerned, so their final Bolero will be very special."

As the final ever winner of Dancing on Ice prepares to be crowned on Sunday night, Karen can look back fondly at her time on the show.

"After the first series, we didn't ever assume the show would continue for another eight years and enjoy the success it's had. It's been a rollercoaster ride at times, but I've enjoyed every minute."

The final of Dancing on Ice can be seen on Sunday, March 9 at 6.15pm on ITV.
