Sam and Rachael Kamau had always dreamed of owning their own home, yet with UK house prices higher than ever they’d given up hope of getting on the property ladder.

However, a new council scheme in Liverpool is selling derelict houses in Wavertree for just a pound in a bid to regenerate the rundown area.

This series follows the Kamau family and other first-time buyers as they invest the £40,000 needed to make the properties liveable and revive the neighbourhood.
