The second leg of Ade’s trip takes him to Central Africa and starts with the stunning spectacle of humpback whales off the coast of Gabon.

But as Ade travels through Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, he hears the familiar story of corrupt leaders plundering their nations’ wealth while their people live in poverty. There are glimmers of hope, though.

In Uganda, which has the youngest population in the world, Ade meets a campaigner determined to end the 33-year rule of its 74-year-old dictator.

He’s also treated to the glorious sight of orphaned mountain gorillas playing with the wardens who guard them in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Virunga National Park.
