Cop Land

Sylvester Stallone is the local sheriff in a quiet New Jersey suburb that's the ideal home to a large community of New York cops.

Sylvester Stallone is the local sheriff in a quiet New Jersey suburb that's the ideal home to a large community of New York cops.

But beneath its peaceful surface, there's a murderous web of corruption just waiting to be exposed by Stallone.

The script could do with a few more surprises, but the movie's tense atmosphere of fear and paranoia is forcefully conveyed.

Holding it all together, Stallone does his best acting in a long while as a naive wannabe who, at first, has nothing but wide-eyed admiration for his big-city pals.

He's ably supported by an exceptional cast including Robert De Niro as an Internal Affairs man who wants Stallone to work with him, Ray Liotta as a nervous adversary and Harvey Keitel as his ruthless counterpart.
