Would-be journalist Anne Hathaway lands a dream job as second assistant to Meryl Streep – the fearsome editor of a prestigious New York fashion magazine.

Arrogant, dismissive and mercurial to a fault, Streep’s boss from hell exercises her power over her employees through constant daily put-downs and petty humiliations – but Hathaway, readily taking to her vacuous new lifestyle despite knowing nothing about fashion, proves she’s up to the task.

Sweeping all before her, Oscar-nominated Streep is superb as she throws her weight and posh designer gear around, Hathaway is charming, Stanley Tucci is excellent as Streep’s long-suffering art director and Emily Blunt is especially good as Streep’s neurotic first assistant.

Packed with witty one-liners and funny situations, this is a well-dressed joy.
