After surviving the recent kidnap ordeal, Inspector Gina Gold is short with married lover Peter Harris when he turns up at Sun Hill with a bunch of flowers for her. Peter tells Gina he's left his wife and wants them to be together - but she's had enough and tells him it's over. Meanwhile, DCs Jo Masters and Terry Perkins are investigating the assault of a man, Simon Preston. While Jo interviews Simon's wife, Hannah, Terry quizzes his best friend, George Gosse. Back at Sun Hill, DS Stuart Turner discovers that the person who made the 999 call was known armed robber Freddy Patterson. Freddy admits to making the call - but denies assaulting Simon. At the hospital, Simon tells Jo and Terry that he doesn't want to press charges, and Hannah confesses to Jo that Simon had agreed to give Freddy details of a security van's route and was assaulted when he changed his mind. Jo and Terry get to Freddy's just in time to see Freddy and George getting into a car destined for the security van hold-up... Elsewhere, the officers investigate the suspicious circumstances surrounding a pensioner's sudden heart attack; Pc Lewis Hardy intervenes when his girlfriend's brother is arrested.
