Holby City spoilers: Baby tragedy for Lofty, Dom and Helen!
As they all look forward to the arrival of a baby boy, Helen, Lofty and Dom get some devastating news…
It was certainly awkward when Ben ‘Lofty’ Chiltern’s holiday fling Helen arrived on the scene and revealed she was pregnant with his child. But since then Lofty – and husband Dominic – have been eagerly awaiting the new arrival.
Lofty (Lee Mead) has been excitedly shopping for baby things but he's worried when Helen fails to reply to any of his recent text messages. When Helen (Verity Marshall) eventually turns up at Holby she tells Lofty that, to save money, they should move in together – but she means without Dom!
When Lofty refuses to tell Dom (David Ames) of her wishes, Helen walks out in disgust. Outside, Lofty convinces Helen that their son will be lucky to have three parents, that’s when she reveals she ignored his texts because didn’t want to make a fuss… but she hasn’t felt the baby move for over 24 hours!
As consultant obstetrician Fleur Fanshawe (Debbie Chazen) performs an ultrasound on Helen, she has to inform both Helen and Lofty that the scan shows there’s no heartbeat and that their baby has died.
Later, Helen and Lofty name their son, William, and all three consider how they’ll move on from such an awful tragedy…
Meanwhile, as Jac continues to struggle with her failing mental health, Elliot tells her he’s ill but he’s not sure she should be the one to operate on him. Jac, however, insists she needs to perform the surgery to prove she can still do her job. Will Elliot help her?
Elsewhere, when a patient needs surgery following a liposuction-gone-wrong procedure, Zav remembers giving the woman botox as part of his and Donna’s business 'sideline'. With Donna relying on the extra income, she's unimpressed when Zav says he no longer wants to be a part of it.
Also, when Kian’s girlfriend Bea suffers complications from her recent heart surgery, new CEO and neurosurgeon Max McGerry is forced to save her life. But she's clearly unimpressed by what she's seen on Darwin so far, and declares the ward under 'special review'…
Holby City continues Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC1.
