The nurse returns this time as a patient - and she's stunned when Hanssen gives her a shock diagnosis...

Sacha gets a shock when a familiar face is admitted onto AAU: it’s Essie. She has severe stomach pains but, given their romantic history, Sacha can’t treat her, so he calls in Hanssen.

Essie’s at the hospital with Raf’s dad, Enzo, and there’s a moment of awkwardness when Enzo first meets Hanssen, the father of the man who shot his son dead.

Hanssen takes great of care of Essie, especially when tests reveal she has ovarian cancer and may need to have a total hysterectomy and her ovaries removed.

Essie fears that Raf’s death and her cancer diagnosis are both payback for the actions of her Nazi grandfather and she almost tries to refuse treatment. Will she let Hanssen help her?

Meanwhile, Casualty fans are in for a treat as Dr Ethan Hardy (George Rainsford) makes a guest appearance when the medic brings patient Gina up from the ED. Gina’s displaying some worrying symptoms including seizures, tremors, fatigue and high blood pressure.

Holby crossover Ethan

When handing Gina's care over to neurosurgeons John Gaskell and Roxanna MacMillan, Ethan tells Roxanna that he suspects Huntington’s disease. He knows the signs as it's the same genetic disorder he’s secretly suffering from.

As Ethan discusses his own condition with Roxanna, it transpires that he once may have been considered a candidate for Gaskell’s pioneering yet risky trial…

Also, Ric loans Donna a deposit for a flat for her and her kids. But Xavier encourages Donna to invest the money in boosting her career. Will she take his advice?

Holby City continues Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC1 - this episode's tx time could change due to the World Cup
