Insecure twentysomething Jon Favreau is still obsessed with the girl who jilted him.

As Favreau (who also wrote the script) spends most of his time vainly checking for messages from her, his friends - including supremely confident charmer Vince Vaughn (in a splendid turn) - decide to show him a good time and together they negotiate their way around the LA singles scene.

Favreau's desperate antics hit an exquisitely embarrassing - and utterly hilarious - note after he meets a woman in a bar and then, in a classic scene, leaves a set of manic messages on her answering machine.

Equally funny are his awful chat-up lines; when Heather Graham tells him her name is Lorraine, he responds with, ‘Like the quiche’.
