Liam Neeson has one of his best roles as a former superspy who has to rescue his kidnapped daughter (Maggie Grace).

She disobeys his ground rules on a trip to Paris with her friend (Katie Cassidy) and is abducted and forced into the slave trade.

Cue Neeson reverting from loving father to vengeful action-man as he heads to France to sort out the bad guys. There’s some awesome edge-of-seat action (and a lot of admittedly gratuitous violence) throughout producer and co-writer Luc Besson’s brutal, brilliantly staged pulp-fiction thriller, with Neeson making a convincing tough guy.

A box-office smash hit, the movie spawned two sequels and prompted Famke Janssen (who plays Grace’s mum and Neeson’s ex-wife) to sign up as the Goodwill Ambassador for Integrity at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
