Trevor McDonald revisits the extraordinary case of serial killer, Beverley Allitt

When Beverley Allitt arrived at Grantham and Kesteven Hospital during the spring of 1991, the softly spoken 22-year-old struck staff as a cheerful and attentive nurse.

However, in the months that followed Allitt’s arrival, doctors at the Lincolnshire hospital were left puzzled when four babies died, and many more infants fell ill, in mysterious circumstances.

In this documentary, commissioned as part of the Crime and Punishment season, Sir Trevor meets families of victims, including Michael Davidson and Bradley Gibson (pictured above with Trevor) detectives and people who miraculously escaped Allitt’s clutches as youngsters, in order to re-examine a case that shocked the nation.
