X Factor finalist James Arthur has blasted previous male solo winners of the series - blaming poor albums on their less than successful careers since the show. Although the likes of Steve Brookstein, Leon Jackson, Joe McElderry and Matt Cardle have all won in the past, none of them have gone on to achieve chart longevity - while other non-winners such as Olly Murs have proven more successful. However James has said that the statistics are 'ridiculous' - saying the quality of their music, rather than the performers, is to blame, and that it would not happen if he is crowned winner on Sunday. "I find the statistics ridiculous, the blokes that have won before have had a niche, they haven't sold records because they haven't made great albums," he told the Mirror. "That's the bottom line. "This show has evolved. If either me or Jahmene won, the albums will be good and they will sell," James added. There's creative control this year, there hasn't been that before. "We haven't had to compromise our styles, where as in the past I think that's been the case, they have had to compromise. The X Factor has produced some of the biggest acts in the world and they didn't even have to win." He also defended Simon Cowell - insisting that he was not damaging the music industry with such shows. "Simon Cowell changes people's lives at the end of the day, the guy has changed the music industry, he pretty much runs it," James said. The 23-year-old is joint favourite with Jahmene Douglas to win the final of the 2012 series, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday night.
