The Frankenstein Chronicles, 10.00pm, ITV Encore

Sean Bean’s gothic horror returns, picking up three years after the events of last series, when Inspector John Marlott (Bean) was wrongly hanged for murder and then brought back from the dead in a sinister experiment. We rejoin a ‘reanimated’ Marlott in London’s Bethlem Hospital, where the poor man is struggling to recall who – or what – he is. But with a newfound sense of strength and an ability to see the dead, will he get his revenge on scheming nobleman Daniel Hervey (played by Ed Stoppard)? Lewis star Laurence Fox joins the cast this series as a mysterious German aristocrat, Frederick Dipple, who is hiding a dark secret… Rating: ****

Doc Martin, 9.00pm, ITV

The Doc is usually beloved by his patients despite a bedside manner so frosty it would make a snowman shudder – but that’s not the case tonight, as one of the rowers in the Portwenn Boat Race goes to see him with an urgent medical matter. Being from the rival village, Alice isn’t used to his stubborn ways and the consultation has catastrophic consequences… Meanwhile, Louisa struggles to resign from her job at the school and Penhale continues his run of bad luck with the ladies. Rating: ****

Gino’s Italian Coastal Escape, 8.00pm, ITV

What a tough job Gino has! In this new series, the lucky chef is travelling along the spectacular Italian coast, learning about its history and culture, and most importantly, of course, sampling and cooking some delicious food along the way. He begins his adventure on the Amalfi Coast, visiting its most picturesque town, Positano. Here, Gino prepares a simple Caprese salad made with tomatoes, basil, mozzarella and olive oil. He also drops in on the little town of Minori, which is famous as the birthplace of fresh pasta, and, finally, goes anchovy fishing off the coast of Cetara – another beautiful small town – where he cooks a tuna tartare with anchovy dripping.
