Dinosaurs: The Final Day with David Attenborough, 6.30pm, BBC One
What if we could see the last hours of the dinosaurs with our own eyes? Time-travel technology might not quite be up to that challenge yet, but this one-off documentary is the next best thing. Using the latest information from an excavation in North Dakota that uncovered incredibly well-preserved fossils, Sir David Attenborough is transported to the Late Cretaceous period using a virtual studio and state-of-the-art visual effects. We get to see dinosaurs as they would have been in their final hours on Earth 66 million years ago, just before the asteroid strike that caused their extinction…

Anatomy of a Scandal, Netflix
Big Little Lies creator David E Kelley swaps sunny California for the shadowy corners of Westminster in this thriller series based on Sarah Vaughan’s novel. Sophie (Sienna Miller), finds her perfect world is turned upside down when her politician husband (Rupert Friend) is accused of sexual assault. It’s a captivating tale examining power, privilege and consent, with plenty of twists – some more believable than others. Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery is on fine form as a prosecution barrister.

Hotel Chocolat at Easter, 7.30pm, C4
Meet the real life Willy Wonkas creating new Easter inventions for Hotel Chocolat, as cameras go behind the doors of the company’s top-secret inventing rooms. Senior chocolatier Tarow (who clearly has the world’s best job!) gets to invent a new £85 chocolate ostrich egg to add to the company’s luxury range, while executive chef David is perfecting a black-forest-gateau alcohol-cream liqueur. There’s a bit of drama with the company’s new advertising campaign, but getting to eat chocolate all day more than makes up for it.

Grantchester, season 7, 9pm, ITV
This series has given us secrets, lies, intrigue, break-ups and make-ups! But most of all, it has given us warmth. After being jailed last series, Leonard has settled into running the cafe – fortunately, as we can’t imagine Grantchester without him (or Al Weaver, who plays the former curate). We’ve also loved how everyone’s rallied to support a poorly Mrs C. But at the core of this show is the dynamic between Will (Tom Brittney) and Geordie (Robson Green), who, despite their differences, will always be the best of pals.

Best box set to watch on TV tonight
The Split, seasons 1–3, BBC iPlayer
The brilliantly overwrought Stern-Defoe clan are back for an explosive third and final series, and it was worth the wait! Available in full on the BBC iPlayer, seasons 1 and 2 (six episodes each) are also there if you’ve missed this gem of a drama and want to catch up. Season 3 begins as Hannah (Nicola Walker) and Nathan (Stephen Mangan) are tiptoeing carefully through a ‘good’ divorce, although Hannah isn’t quite ready to say farewell. However, a revelation – at one of the most awkward dinners we’ve ever witnessed! – will ensure friction for the weeks ahead. With secrets and angst also bubbling away for Hannah’s sisters Rose and Nina, the drama’s trademark mix of tears and wry humour is firmly in evidence, but get ready for some epic, life-changing curveballs.
Best film to watch on TV tonight
Dune, 8pm, Sky Cinema Premiere/NOW
If there is a director to do full justice to Frank Herbert’s sci-fi tome, it’s Denis Villeneuve. Splitting the book into two to fully explore the space saga, this first episode – which won six Oscars – sets up the sprawling tale, as one dynasty (House Atreides) among warring factions is sent to the desert planet of Arrakis, aka Dune, to oversee mining of an invaluable spice. Oscar Isaac plays the Atreides leader, who takes with him his son Timothée Chalamet, the boy-king set to take the throne. Prepare for epic battles, court intrigue, jaw-dropping vistas and the sight of sandworms the size of small mountains. It’s phenomenal.
