Emmerdale producer Ian MacLeod has teased a huge upcoming autumn storyline that will stem from last year's super soap week.

In a press conference, Ian also promised “surprises galore” but said that it wouldn’t be quite as action-packed as last year’s.

He said: "There’s a kind of action component to it but I think last year’s spectacular was a massive action set piece and there was so much stunt work in it that, while we did toy with the idea of trying to top that, I don’t know how you’d fully achieve that without it looking a bit ridiculous or actually topping it,” he said.

Ian added: “So we’ve gone down a slightly different route so the action is equally dramatic but more intense and more intimate and focusing on a smaller group of people rather than crashing as many vehicles as we can get our hands on. Which, I’ll admit, was fun but you can’t go there twice.”

Last year, Emma Barton trapped husband James.

Eventually, James managed to escape, but Emma ended up pushing him off the bridge and causing a number of cars to crash.

Many lives hung in the balance but James ended up being the one who died and Emma has spent the last year trying to cover her tracks.

Will Emma’s actions finally be exposed?
