Emmerdale spoilers: Has Pete Barton just outed transgender Matty Barton?

Pete defends Matty in Emmerdale

During a football game, Matty cringes when well-meaning Pete Barton comes to his defence against the opposition

Emmerdale's Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) has recently started to feel really good in his own skin. He's recently had the last of his gender transformation surgeries and finally he has the body he wished he'd been born with.

But Matty's transformation from Hannah Barton to Matty is not something he wants to be spread about. It's caused him lots of trouble before. He just wants to be one the lads, like all the other guys.

So when his well-meaning Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) starts laying into opponent Jono (Eddie-Joe Robinson) because he's barged into Matty during a footie match, it's not cool. Worried that Pete has made his private pain public knowledge Matty is fuming.

Later, however, in the pub, it's all bants for Matty and new mate Jono and his friend Ste. Watching on, Pete clocks the situation and isn't impressed by the company out-of-his-depth Matty seems so keen on keeping.

Elsewhere, Rhona (Zoe Henry) intercepts an act of sabotage, and Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) is stunned by an arrival.

This is the first of tonight's Emmerdale episodes.
