Holby City spoilers: Are Ric Griffin and Serena at breaking point?

Ric Griffiths and Serena holby crisis

The Holby City staff are gearing up to honour 70 years of the NHS. But celebrations soon turn into catastrophe... this episode is being shown on Wednesday

The medical staff in Holby City are in the mood to party this week, as the NHS prepares to celebrate it's historic 70th anniversary! However, their plans for an after work bash are put on hold when the roof of a local indoor market collapses, resulting in multiple casualties being admitted.

It's a case of all hands on deck, but with some patients and staff buckling under the strain, and Xavier 'Zav' Duval being physically assaulted by an angry patient, everyone's thankful that senior surgeons Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie) and Serena Campbell (Catherine Russell) are at the helm…

Although extra beds and seating are provided on the ward for needy patients, it's far from an ideal situation. Serena's skills are tested to their limits as she battles to save a patient called Lennie Jefferies (EastEnders' Gary Beadle), whose life she saved many years before. Can Ric help Serena keep Lennie alive for a second time?

Later, as everyone's ready to end the shift suddenly there's another incident that sees the fire-fighters and ambulance services in need of urgent treatment. Will our heroes once again go above and beyond the call of duty?

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the hospital, Abigail forces Fletch to face facts over their relationship, and Sheilagh gives grandson Lofty her thoughts on his relationship with Dom. Is she a 'Dofty' fan?

Holby City continues Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC1. Schedules may be subject to change due to live coverage of the World Cup.
