It's a new year and Jac, Ric and Sacha head to a conference - but will it be the journey from hell?
Jac (Rosie Marcel), Ric (Hugh Quarshie) and Sacha (Bob Barrett) are off on a road trip to an 'innovation conference', where they must pitch their ideas to win a million-pound prize fund. It's a long journey and Sacha tries to lighten the mood with a mixtape of his favourite songs… but fails miserably!
At the event, Ric gets a blast from the past when he bumps into none other than former Holby favourite Tom Campbell-Gore (New Tricks star Denis Lawson). When Tom suspects Ric has made a move on his wife, the pair lock horns and chaos ensues…
Ric’s not the only one with problems as Sacha has come to the conference woefully unprepared. Sacha’s nervous as hell as he prepares to pitch to a room full of rival surgeons – but has he got the million-pound idea? And while the road-trip certainly tests Jac, Ric and Sacha’s friendship, will it end up bringing them closer together?
Meanwhile, back at Holby, it’s a challenging shift for Serena (Catherine Russell) when her daughter-in-law Greta is rushed to the hospital after being hit by a car.
Serena knows what it’s like to have a new year marked by tragedy – can she put her personal feelings aside and perform the emergency operation on Greta to prevent history repeating itself?
*This episode marks the first of Holby's year of celebrations for its 20th anniversary.
