Steve Jobs

A superb film about Apple guru Steve Jobs, starring Michael Fassbender

A superb film about Apple guru Steve Jobs. Departing from the typical cradle-to-grave biopic, this movie cleverly focuses on just three episodes from his rollercoaster career: a trio of crucial product launches from 1984, 1988 and 1998.

As Michael Fassbender's Jobs wrangles with colleagues and friends - and the occasional foe - in the 40 minutes before each launch, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin turns the exchanges into scintillating, sharp-witted verbal sparring, while Danny Boyle directs with a bristling dynamism.

The set-up is deliberately contrived, yet thanks to Sorkin and Boyle's audacity and panache and the superb work of Fassbender and his co-stars (including Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen and Jeff Daniels), the drama that unfolds is unmissable.

Even if it falls far short of the full story, the film does a very good job of revealing its subject's control freak personality, his focus and arrogance - and his ability to inspire even when behaving appallingly to the people around him.
