It comes after show writer Darren Litten hinted that the cancelled TV series would be returning to the big screen.

Benidorm star Sherrie Hewson has confirmed the much-loved TV show will be returning as a film.

The actress, 69, played Joyce Temple on the award-winning ITV sitcom, which was cancelled last year following ten series.

Following rumours of a big screen production, Sherrie has revealed filming is scheduled to begin next year.

“I know it’s quite sad that Benidorm is gone but we are going to make a film and I assume there will be another tour. Benidorm will never die," she told The Sun.

“We’ll make it next year. We used to go out at the beginning of March and finish at the end of July and a film will only take eight weeks so it’ll be good.”

The film will be out in 2020, Sherrie said

Sherrie added that she can’t wait to reprise the role and work with her old castmates again.

“It’s such a wonderful show and I love Joyce Temple Savage. I love everyone in it - we all keep in touch.”

It comes after show writer Darren Litten hinted a film could be on the cards after the series was cancelled.

Darren, who is the brains behind new BBC One TV show Scarborough, said he’s got a “big American movie star” potentially lined up for the film.

“I’d always declined the offer of meetings regarding a Benidorm movie but the stage tour is proving so popular and the story I came up with would work so well as a film to tie up the end of the TV series we’ve put the wheels in motion,” he told the Mail Online last year.

"We already have interest from a very big American movie star who apparently is a fan.

"British movies are notoriously difficult to fund but if it does happen, you can blame Shane Richie," he added, in reference to actor Shane previously telling him that it had to be made into movie after watching how brilliant touring show Benidorm Live was.
