There's trouble heading for Coronation Street's Gemma Winter as her brother arrives on the cobbles. But which other Weatherfield resident does he have a surprising connection with?

Coronation Street fans are about to find out more about Gemma Winter's backstory as the soap introduces her brother as part of a new storyline for the much-loved character.

But Gemma's brother will look familiar to lots of soap fans, because according to the Daily Star he is also David Platt's former cellmate, Paul.

David and Paul were cellmates back in May

It has been revealed recently that David's prison friend - who he met while he was in jail for attacking Gary Windass - was set to bring trouble for the hairdresser.

It has been promised that Paul would upset David as he reminded him about a time in his life that he would most definitely rather try and forget.

David might have mixed feelings about having Paul back in his life having just found closure on his sexual abuse ordeal at the hands of evil Josh Tucker, but will Gemma be pleased to see her brother?

While fans have loved seeing Gemma turn from Kylie Platt's rough and ready friend to hilarious Rovers barmaid since she arrived back in 2014, we still don't know a huge amount about the character's past.

Could that all be about to change with Paul's arrival on the cards?

David finally got closure on his ordeal with Josh, but will Paul being back bad memories for the hairdresser?

Actress Dolly-Rose Campbell, who plays fiesta Gemma, recently hinted to Inside Soap that her character could expect plenty of drama heading her way this Christmas. And it seems that Gemma's sibling could be at the centre of it all...

"There's lots of different stuff happening over Christmas - which is quite revealing.

"It might show us a few different elements of Gemma's character, and explain some things about why she is like she is. There's plenty to come."

It sounds like there could be trouble on the cards for both Gemma and David if Paul has his way.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
