Best TV shows on TV tonight
Jamie's Easy Christmas, 8pm, C4
If you watched a non-stop TV marathon of all the Christmas cooking shows Jamie Oliver has made, it could probably take you from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day. But somehow he finds something new to share, and this year is no different as he demonstrates twists on classics and simple hacks that make all the difference. After an easy but impressive starter of salmon gravadlax, it’s on to the star of the Christmas dinner show for many: the turkey. As well as a clever chestnut-and-bacon crumb, Jamie also shows us how to make the ‘best gravy ever’ – which seems a bold statement until you realise you’re drooling slightly while taking notes.

Between The Covers, 7pm, BBC2
Sara Cox welcomes four more guests — Kerry Godliman, Gabby Logan, Ade Adepitan and Tom Read Wilson — to her weekly book discussion programme. After a chat about whether any of them are members of book clubs (Kerry points out that the reality is that you have a bit of wine, then quickly forget about the books and go off-topic with gossip), it’s on to this week’s choices. They include Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez and Moon Tiger by Penelope Lively, but if you want to know which one caused ‘ocular seepage’ in Tom (translation: he cried a lot), you’ll have to watch.

Chris Kamara: Lost For Words, 9.15pm, ITV1
Chris Kamara takes on a very personal project, opening up about his battle with neurological disorder apraxia of speech (AOS), which affects speaking, balance and movement. In this film, Chris discusses his own shock diagnosis and how it has affected his life. He chats to other sufferers, including the mother of a four-year-old child who has the rare condition, and also returns to the Leeds hospital where he was diagnosed, to hear about therapies that might help him and others. ‘The support I’ve had has been overwhelming,’ says Chris. ‘If I can raise awareness and it helps just one person, I’ll be delighted.’

A Bunch of Amateurs: Storyville, 10pm, BBC4
Harry is over 80, but fancies remaking Oklahoma!, with himself in a lead role. Harry’s never been on a horse in his life and finding corn as high as an elephant's eye in the Bradford area is a bit unlikely, so it all seems like a bit of a mad dream. This documentary about Bradford Cine Circle, a once thriving, now struggling group of amateur filmmakers brilliantly catches the can-do attitude of Harry and his fellow club members, people who’d rather have a go themselves than leave it all up to the professionals. There are squabbles, setbacks and minor triumphs in this poignant, inspiring film about people who deal in defiant optimism – and it’s at feature-length, appropriately!

Two Doors Down, 10pm, BBC2, iplayer
The final episode in the series sees long-suffering Beth (Arabella Weir) and Eric invite Colin and recent arrival Anne-Marie (Siobhan Redmond who’s slotted right in) into the garden to enjoy the weather and sample Beth’s new cocktail recipes – a frozen margarita, anyone? But nothing stays secret for long and the gathering becomes much larger than she intended as Michelle and her friend Louise turn up, followed by Alan, Ian and Gordon and, of course, Christine, who’ll always be anywhere there’s a chance of a drink. Chaos inevitably ensues!

Best box set on TV tonight
Motherland, Netflix or BBC iPlayer
With the Motherland Christmas special heading our way in a couple of weeks, it's the perfect time to re-watch or try the original series. The popular BBC comedy explores the trials and traumas of middle-class motherhood with plenty of hilarious and cringeworthy moments along the way.
What's more, it's got an all-star cast including Anna Maxwell Martin, Lucy Punch, Paul Ready, Philippa Dunne and Diane Morgan, who all brilliantly play a variety of parents trying to balance life, work and kids.

Best film on TV tonight
The Holiday, 8pm, ITV2
If you want to get in the festive mood, there is nothing better than this Christmas film starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and Jude Law. The Holiday has a bit of everything from a star-studded cast to a festive love story, and whether you like to see picture-perfect snowy British countryside in your Christmas movies or sunny Los Angeles, this film has it all.
The story follows English rose Iris (Kate Winslet) who is nursing a broken heart in the UK, while glamorous Californian Amanda (Cameron Diaz) is doing the very same thing in the US. Claire is Assistant Managing Editor at What To Watch and has been a journalist for over 15 years, writing about everything from soaps and TV to beauty, entertainment, and even the Royal Family. After starting her career at a soap magazine, she ended up staying for 13 years, and over that time she’s pulled pints in the Rovers Return, sung karaoke in the Emmerdale village hall, taken a stroll around Albert Square, and visited Summer Bay Surf Club in sunny Australia.
After learning some tricks of the trade at websites Digital Spy, Entertainment Daily, and Woman & Home, Claire landed a role at What’s On TV and whattowatch.com writing about all things TV and film, with a particular love for Aussie soaps, Strictly Come Dancing and Bake Off.
She’s interviewed everyone from June Brown — AKA Dot Cotton — to Michelle Keegan, swapped cooking tips with baking legend Mary Berry backstage at the NTAs, and danced the night away with soap stars at countless awards bashes. There’s not a lot she doesn’t know about soaps and TV and can be very handy when a soapy question comes up in a pub quiz!
As well as all things soap-related, Claire also loves running, spa breaks, days out with her kids, and getting lost in a good book.
