Best TV shows on TV tonight
Candy, Disney Plus (box set)
Many Hollywood actresses have ditched the glamour to play real-life murderers, most recently Renée Zellweger as Pam Hupp in The Thing About Pam. Now, The Sinner’s Jessica Biel portrays Candace ‘Candy’ Montgomery, a suburban housewife who was accused of killing her friend and neighbour, Betty Gore, with an axe. Justin Timberlake (Jessica’s husband in real life) also stars as an investigating officer (with fake moustache and prosthetic belly!) in this compelling true story.

Doc Martin season 10, 9 pm, ITV
Having left the kids in Portwenn, the Ellinghams head to a medical conference in London, which Louisa envisions will be a delightful child-free break. It isn’t. The doc’s ex, Sophie - Hermione Norris gleefully running amok is a TV treat – is in full troublemaking mode. First, there’s her revelation that Louisa is the ‘troublesome cervix’ case study in the doc’s speech. Which is news to Louisa. (Wait until she hears he’ll be showing slides of her insides!) But that’s nothing in comparison to catching her hubby in a compromising position with Sophie. Ever wished you’d just stayed at home?

Mary Berry: Cook & Share, 8 pm, BBC Two
Mary is in Edinburgh alongside 30,000 runners for the annual marathon around the beautiful Scottish city. She hasn’t brought her trainers (although we wouldn’t be that surprised if she broke out into a jog) but she starts the race, cheering on the crowds before making her favourite hearty breakfast of an eggy bread avocado and ham sandwich, fried for extra crunch and flavour. She also prepares a simple and delicious-looking tomato and garlic pistou (like pesto but no pine nuts) tart and her go-to speedy dinner of pea and pesto spaghetti. There’s also a Sunday-best minted lamb casserole followed by indulgent honeycomb rocky road to feed the hungry runners at the finish line.

Uprising, 9 pm, BBC Four and iPlayer (box set)
The BBC continues its Black History Month programming with a reshowing of Steve McQueen’s 2021 BAFTA-winning trio of films charting the horrific events of the 1981 New Cross house fire. Episode one focuses on London’s racial tensions and the fire itself; episode two on the Black People’s Day of Action; and episode three on the Brixton riots. The miniseries’ power lies in having survivors, victims’ families and activists talk alongside forensics investigators and police.

The Elon Musk Show, 9 pm, BBC Two
Aside from being the world’s richest man, who is Elon Musk? That’s what this intriguing three-parter hopes to find out in interviews with friends, family, colleagues and those who know the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX best. There’s fascinating archive footage, from his childhood in South Africa to his spiritual home in Silicon Valley, while the series also analyses key moments of the multibillionaire’s career, which reportedly began aged 12 when he developed a video game and sold the code to a tech magazine for $500!

Shameless US star Jeremy Allen White stars as young chef Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto in this critically acclaimed comedy-drama. Carmy has made a success of himself in the world of fine dining, but after the tragic suicide of his brother, he returns home to Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop, The Original Beef of Chicagoland. It’s a different world for Carmy, who must try to get the uncooperative staff on board, cope with family rifts and navigate the tricky challenges of small business, all the while facing his own grief.
Best film to watch on TV tonight
Rush, 10.40 pm (times vary), BBC One (not Wales)
Director Ron Howard’s engrossing and exhilarating sports drama stars Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl as Formula One drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda respectively. The focus is on their contrasting characters – reckless, party-loving Hunt versus dour, methodical Lauda – resulting in an intense rivalry, which came to a head during the dramatic and dangerous 1976 season.

Martin was a Staff Writer with WhatToWatch.com, where he produced a variety of articles focused on the latest and greatest films and TV shows. Now he works for our sister site Tom's Guide in the same role.
Some of his favorite shows are What We Do In The Shadows, Bridgerton, Gangs of London, The Witcher, Doctor Who, and Ghosts. When he’s not watching TV or at the movies, Martin’s probably still in front of a screen playing the latest video games, reading, or watching the NFL.
