BGT's Jonathan Antoine admits self-harm

Britain's Got Talent singer Jonathan Antoine has confessed that he went through a period of self-harming after being dumped by a girl who did the same.

The opera star - who with singing partner Charlotte Jaconelli finished second in the 2012 series of the show - made the shock admission to the Sunday People, saying that her behaviour had a profound effect on him.

"She was pretty messed up," he said. "She was self-harming a lot.

"I tried to hide it from my mum because I knew she'd be really upset. But my girlfriend didn't really care about being discreet.

"I spent all my time hiding blades and sharp things but she would have cuts all over herself and wear clothes so you could see."

Jonathan added: "My mum found out and that was really stressful."

And he said his own brush with self-harming came after she ended their relationship with a phone call.

"I removed a blade from a sharpener and cut up my torso. There was blood everywhere. My mum walked in and just went into meltdown," he told the paper.

"It was like everything in my head just exploded. I don’t know why I cut myself when I knew it was a crazy thing to do but I just wanted to hurt myself."

He revealed that Charlotte's decision to put them up for audition on Britain's Got Talent ultimately helped him turn his fortunes around.

"I felt very different, very weird," he said. "I was in this awful mess and nothing could be worse so I thought 'what the hell. Do it'.".

The pair went on to finish second to Ashley and Pudsey - and have recently been in Los Angeles recording their second album.
