Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod has revealed plans for a “weird” Christmas Day episode, which will bring show favourites Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle closer together.

The pair – coined “Robron” by fans – split up over the summer in Emmerdale when Aaron struggled to cope with the fact that Rebecca White was carrying Robert’s baby. Robert and Rebecca had slept together when Aaron was in prison.

Iain said: "There is a big, big episode that will go out on Christmas Day, which is more or less a Robron single strander, which is probably the weirdest episode we’ve even done – and given we’ve done some pretty weird episodes, that’s saying something! It’s really out there.

"It’s the episode I’ve been most nervous about since I started, just because of how crackers it is. But I think it’s really entertaining and dramatic, and got it’s a surprise cameo in it.

"I always view Robert and Aaron as being on the opposite ends of elastic. At the moment, the elastic is stretched pretty tight and they’re as far away from each other as I’m comfortable with them getting. The events of Christmas and New Year will boing them back together again, to coin a phrase."

Iain has also revealed when that Robron will officially tie the knot again, following their unofficial “wedding” last February.

"You might want to be careful about when you book your Summer holidays," he adds. "So basically, I’m saying it’s next Summer!’"
