Shirley insists she wants Ben out of the house because of the trouble he's caused. Ben is gutted when Phil doesn't stand up for him. When Ben complains he's been chucked out of his home twice in as many months, Phil realises that he needs to keep an eye on Ben and tells an unimpressed Shirley he's staying. A paranoid Ben warns Jay not to grass him up and reveals he has Jay's bloodstained hoodie, threatening to frame him for the murder. Phil walks in to find the boys fighting and furiously drags a terrified Ben to the allotments. Phil burns the hoodie, warning Ben never to threaten the family again. Phil is shocked when a desperate Ben claims he's proved himself as a Mitchell by nearly getting Phil sent to prison. Ben breaks down, scared that his father will never be proud of him. Dot visits Shirley and insists that Andrew will soon be released. Dot's faith in Andrew's innocence is shaken when Shirley tells Dot about Andrew's angry outburst on the night of Heather's hen do. Meanwhile, Andrew is being questioned at the police station. He's frustrated when they won't believe that he and Heather were about to elope.

Patrick McLennan is a London-based journalist and documentary maker who has worked as a writer, sub-editor, digital editor and TV producer in the UK and New Zealand. His CV includes spells as a news producer at the BBC and TVNZ, as well as web editor for Time Inc UK. He has produced TV news and entertainment features on personalities as diverse as Nick Cave, Tom Hardy, Clive James, Jodie Marsh and Kevin Bacon and he co-produced and directed The Ponds, which has screened in UK cinemas, BBC Four and is currently available on Netflix. 

An entertainment writer with a diverse taste in TV and film, he lists Seinfeld, The Sopranos, The Chase, The Thick of It and Detectorists among his favourite shows, but steers well clear of most sci-fi.
