Dylan buries his demons in Casualty

Christmas Eve is the busiest night of the year in Holby ED, but that suits doctor Dylan Keogh just fine… Recovering alcoholic Dylan has volunteered to work Christmas and New Year shifts in a desperate bid to keep his mind off ex-girlfriend Ciara Cassidy, and also stop him reaching for the bottle!

The arrival of an unexpected Christmas card from Berlin, which Dylan suspects from his former-lover, however, means Ciara is never far from Dylan’s thoughts…

Meanwhile, Nurse David Hide is also working over the holidays and keeping a concerned eye on Dylan – which irritates the dour doctor no end! David invites Dylan to join him for a jolly Christmas dinner but Dylan decides he’d rather spend the day walking the dogs. Now that’s what we call rejection!

Just as Dylan’s about to clock off he’s urgently needed in Resus to treat star-crossed security guards Joe and Alun. Despite his own heartache, Dylan is moved by their plight. With Joe’s life hanging in the balance Dylan needs a Christmas miracle to save Joe and unite the unlucky-in-love couple…

Louise is lonely – and broke - this Christmas

It’s safe to say nurse Louise Tyler is not feeling festive, and who can blame her. Since taking on a senior role in the ED, the overworked medic has had heaps more responsibility but minimal pay increase. In fact, she’s working over the holidays because she can’t raise enough cash to visit her brother.

It’s a sad state of affairs but at least nurse pal Jacob Masters is on hand to offer Louise support. He’s also intent on treating her to a few seasonal Sherries after their shift.

One of Casualty’s cutest couples, newly in-love Gem Dean and Rash Masum have decided not to spend Christmas together. Rash’s mum wants him all to herself, and Gem is okay with that.

In the meantime, hospital porter Gem is happy to work alongside junior doctor Rash on the wards this Christmas Eve. And it’s a good thing streetwise Gem is on duty. She’s the only staff member to notice agency nurse Amy Nugent acting suspiciously. When there’s a sinister development Gem – with help from cheery receptionist Noel - is first to realise what’s really going on. With time running out for vulnerable patients, will Gem and Noel end up saving patients lives?

When a homeless man is brought into the ED suffering from shock-related amnesia after being electrocuted, Jacob takes a shine to the gentle, young man, and decides to figure out who he is and try and reunite him with his family. But this is Holby, and Jacob is shaken by what he uncovers…

Dylan finally snaps and tells David the real reason why he’s working over Christmas! Could David’s overbearing concern cause a rift between these two close friends?

Meanwhile, will Dylan decide to open his mystery Christmas card?
