This decidedly odd art-house movie is far from a conventional tale of the supernatural. Writer-director David Lowery is taking a big risk with his cartoonish spectral image but, remarkably, the gambit plays off.

This is an achingly sad and haunting story of love and loss, as Affleck reamins on the site of the blissful life he enjoyed with his now grieving wife (Rooney Mara) while everything changes.

The film's minimalist drama and slow pace requires some patience, but  stay with it and A Ghost Story proves to be eerily memorable.
