How does Piers Morgan measure up against one of the all-time great TV chat show hosts?

Find out this week as the combative and opinionated Good Morning Britain presenter welcomes the urbane Michael Parkinson into the hot seat.

The encounter between the two turns out to be a surprisingly emotional affair, as only child Parky, 84, opens up about his relationship his with his father Jack, who died in 1975.

"Parky is one of my heroes, so I wanted to do a good job," Piers told TV Times.

"Michael was an only child and very close to his dad, who was a miner.

"When he was talking about his father dying and people coming to take the body away, he completely broke down.

"It showed me that Life Stories is a unique show during which the rawest moments of people’s lives can come back to them.

"You’ve never seen Parky like that, and it is very interesting to see how it plays out."

Appropriately, Parkinson’s one-on-one specials were part of the inspiration for Piers when the format for Life Stories was being devised.

In interviewing one of his heroes, he uncovers a side of the unflappable Yorkshireman we have not seen before.
