What’s the plot for the festive special?

James and Helen get close in the All Creatures Great and Small Christmas special

James and Helen enjoy a drink at a party. Will there be romance between them in the festive episode?

Opening on Christmas Eve, James isn’t feeling very festive. He’s struggling to hide his true feelings for Helen as she prepares to get married to Hugh.

Rachel Shenton, who plays Helen, teases that the character isn't sure about getting married to Hugh.

“It’s emotional because it’s Christmas Eve and the night before her wedding and she’s uncertain. I don’t think she thought a proposal was around the corner and it blindsided her. Now, with everyone at the party asking about her plans, she’s overwhelmed.”

Things take an eventful twist when James is called out to help a dog struggling to give birth.

Helen offers to come along. But then a thick fog comes down over the Dales and they become trapped for the night.

Rachel adds: “Helen wants to go to escape the pressure but also there’s a pull in the direction of James and she just wants to be with him. But then they get stuck there in the fog…”

Will James take the chance to tell Helen his true feelings? And will she make it to her wedding?

What’s the cast of the Christmas special?

Tristan Siegfried and James in All Creatures Great and Small

Tristan, James and Siegfried have a busy schedule in All Creatures Great and Small

All the main cast are back for the Christmas special. Nicholas Ralph returns as James Herriot, who is finally getting the measure of his boss Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West). While Callum Woodhouse will no doubt be getting up to more mischief as Tristan Farnon. And Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) will have the unenviable job of trying to keep everyone in order. Plus former Hollyoaks star Rachel Shenton will return as farmer Helen.

Is there a trailer yet for the festive episode?

Yes, one has finally landed. And among other things it sees Tristan's exam results turn up... perhaps Siegfried should take Mrs Hall's advice and not open those or there might be a big festive bust-up!
