Essex-born actor Russell Tovey is set to join the new series of hit spy thriller Quantico

The role will see him play a thief called Harry Doyle who is described as a 'mischievous gadabout' and a smooth operator willing to seduce anyone and pull any trick to achieve his objective.

The character has been written with the former Being Human and Him & Her star in mind. Showrunner Josh Safran told The Hollywood Reporter: "Ever since being introduced to him in The History Boys 10 years ago, I've hoped to work with Russell.

"It's been an honour for the writers and myself to be able to create this role specifically for him."

The 34-year-old, who recently hinted at a reunion with his former Being Human co-stars, is best known in the US for his role in HBO's Looking.

He also recently starred in the film adaptation of stage play The Pass reprising his role of Jason, a gay professional footballer who struggles with his decision to keep his sexuality a secret in order to progress in his career.
