Trailer Trash – Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole

Owls tend not to land central roles in Hollywood movies. In the Harry Potter films, these big-eyed birds of prey are little more than harassed postal workers and in the recent remake of Clash of the Titans, the mechanical owl Bubo makes the briefest of cameo appearances before being unceremoniously discarded. Well, owls are set to have the last hoot with their very own animated action movie, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. Here's the trailer...

Kathryn Lasky, the film follows young owl Soren as he embarks on an epic journey to find legendary winged warriors, the Guardians. But it’s not all plain soaring – Soren’s quest, and the future of all owlkind, is threatened by an army of taloned terrors, the Pure Ones.

Directed by Zack Snyder, the helmer of 300 and Watchmen, the animation here looks truly spectacular. Though the trailer is, perhaps, faintly ridiculous (with its slow-motion flight sequences and anthemic pop-rock theme music), the story does have a truly epic (if not slightly familiar) feel and an assortment of appealingly rendered characters.

Will this tale of heroic hooters take flight at the box office or will it make Snyder look like a right twit-twhoo?
