Best TV shows on TV tonight
DI Ray, 9pm, ITV
Written by Maya Sondhi, who played PC Bindra in Line of Duty, this crime drama stars ER actor Parminder Nagra as Midlands police officer Rachita Ray, who gets her wish to work in homicide granted after receiving a commendation for bravery. However, when she learns her first case is a ‘Culturally Specific Homicide’ involving a suspected honour killing, she wonders if the move may have been a token gesture linked to her ethnicity. Parminder is excellent as Ray, who is determined to crack the case while negotiating her colleagues’ assumptions about enduring casual racism day to day. Continues until Thursday.

Meanwhile, Nina’s lack of a phone signal in the great outdoors causes concern for her future plans while matriarch Ruth (Deborah Findlay) also makes a decision about Ronnie. What will next week’s last-ever episode entail as a result?

Davina McCall: Sex, Mind and the Menopause, 9pm, C4
Last year, Davina’s documentary Sex, Myths and the Menopause, which highlighted the lack of education around the menopause, got a positive public response. In this follow-up, campaigner Davina delves deeper into some of the issues raised, including which HRT is safest. She also examines how women are being sidelined or even sacked from work when battling symptoms. With the menopause affecting half the world’s population, this is essential viewing.

There are a couple of newbies, with chef to the stars Mathew adjusting to a galley kitchen, and Chief Stewardess Katie finding her feet. Can they work together to find calm waters? Continues tomorrow.

Signora Volpe, Acorn TV
Umbria provides the beautiful backdrop for this enjoyable three-part crime drama starring Silent Witness actor Emilia Fox as Sylvia, an MI6 agent who finds herself investigating a murder when she attends her niece’s wedding. While there are a few action set-pieces, family is very much at the heart of this series, in which Tara Fitzgerald appears as the sister with whom Sylvia has a strained relationship.
